Barrel House: Emilia Quinn's Unforgettable C2C Debut

Emilia Quinn live at The Barrel House at C2C. It's 15:50 on Sunday at C2C, time for her only full band set of the weekend. Matt Koziol has just been on and the room is still massively massively packed. I was standing at the barrier with none other than Emilia's mom who recognized me #famous lol. We had a brief chat "I remembered her and she remembered me" from the last show she caught, the library or book club show as we called it in leeds.

It was onto the full band set from the vocalist power house . C2C, are you ready? A small mispronunciation of the venue name shows that she's clearly been coming to C2C for a few years, as it hasn't been called the town square for a while! She's bouncing and clearly vibing; there's a whole lot of you out there. The set kicked off with the track "Daddy’s Girl", where the album name comes from, "Wanderlust" and "Breaking Rules". We're into the chorus, "how can I be Daddy’s Girl", and I glance around and there are quite a few people singing along, including one lady over to the right of me, full-on vibing and singing loud. This was an excellent choice for an intro track, fast-paced and engaging to grip any new folks, especially and showcase her vocal range. Mr. Doyle gets to flex on the guitars, huge cheers to end.

(A small claim to fame with this song: it was debuted on one of my live streams and has been my favorite song since, although there's another favorite at the moment.)

"Girl Talk", mentioning International Women’s Day and featuring quite possibly the whole of the UK country community, is another track where the chorus I hear all about the hot tub got some loud singing. Lovely solo for Mr. Doyle in this with loud cheers after.

It's now the 3rd track, it's Mother's Day. Who has brought their mom? I wrote this song about her thinking of me; I haven’t told her I’m doing this song. It's about the worrying her when she goes out to gigs at night. It's called "Mom". It’s the first time being played with the band and I think I’ve only ever heard this once before. I glance over to the left, as I’m next to Emilia's mom. She’s holding it together. Boy, does she know how to write emotional songs that grip you? The instrumentation, band backing, and lyrics; I’m slightly welling up at how beautiful and story can picture from the song “I’m all right a lot of late nights”. What a lyric! "Mommer" leading into long vocal run and Doyle working his magic on the guitar; massive cheers at this point.

Change of guitars and “Worse Than Whisky”; the perfect track to showcase her whole other side slower and more tender side of what she and the band can do.

Plug time: I’m off on tour, see below.

Time to bring the mood! Time for some call and response, the crowd fully joining in, “you don’t need to show me up”, “I don’t like them, they're better than me”. At this point, I was certain that mic was turned down slightly, probably due to the powerhouse vocals in that section.

Mr. Shame next and full-on hard-hitting band showcasing the full-on rock sound, “Oooo I wanna know your name”, are you ready to get rowdy with me”, leading to mighty cheers.

Guitar change from Emilia leading to Mr. Doyle's guitar showcase section, “show them what you mean”; introduction of the band members then onto “Magpie”, another full band track. Mr. Doyle's solo, amazing; “she's mine” showcasing the vocal growl.

It's time for the final track. “Well, this has been fun, you have been a pleasure.” It's "Backroads", the final track on the album, and piano lead one; the perfect end track showcasing her talents. The vocals on this, wow, and major loud cheers at the end, and even from the sound desk and crew; one to gig to remember.

What a set at The Barrel House; the energy was off the scale in the room right from the moment she started. The set was beautifully curated to showcase her talents in a short 30-minute slot; she owned that venue. You could clearly see she was having the time of her life & this will be one of Her most memorable moments. The connection she has with her band certainly shows, and she certainly knows how to work a crowd of new fans. Having done every show for the last six months, they have all been ousting but there was something about the energy in the room seeing a whole bunch of new people full-on vibing. The room was ram-jammed; things are growing fast for the powerhouse vocalist in such a short space. It's mega exciting to see and I am hear, to watch the ride. her and her team have but lot of work in to getting here and it shows! i still maintain she the unpredictable artist you never know what she going to do next! keeping the fans and followers engaged all the time
